As autumn comes to a close and winter approaches it is a perfect time to reflect and be thankful. Thankful for family, friends and the opportunity to make music and connect with people.
This fall was very exciting as I gave my first ever "viola seminar" in a small yet enchanting village in Provence, France. During this workshop we rolled up our sleeves together and worked on viola technique, performance preparation, ways to "self-manage" and literally create opportunities for oneself. It was a great learning experience for everyone, especially myself!
Here is a video documentary about our week together:
Performance highlights of the fall season were difficult to narrow down, but one that stands out in my mind include unique multi-media interaction. Sol-Path, composer Bruno Louchouarn's incredible concerto for amplified viola, sound scape material from NASA and deep space, and the amazing projection art of Adam Larsen was the highlight of my October in Los Angeles.

The 6th season of my concert series "Music and More" took place in early November and I was thrilled to have my son, Graham join Caroline Fauchet and me in Piazzolla's Otono Porteno:
Some upcoming concertos from the 20th and 21st century:
I'm also very excited to be teaching at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in NY. I'll be giving master classes in North and South America and Europe this season, something I love to do!
Im really excited about performing the J.C. Bach (Cassadesus) viola concerto with my friends from the New Jersey Symphony this spring as well as giving the world premiere of Frank Levy's "Concerto for viola and winds" in Omaha, a special performance of Amanda Harberg's concerto in Seattle, the Walton concerto in Gramado, Brazil and a special concert with Cuban pianist Juana Zayas of both Johannes Brahms viola sonatas in Montclair!
This summer I will be back at the wonderful Internatinal Festival at Round Top, Texas so if you violists havent already applied to audition, I strongly recommend you do!
So, from my family to yours,
I wish you a safe and Happy Holiday season!
